In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus uses five simple words to simplify love of neighbor, “you did it to me.” Let’s reach out to those in need and battling cancer. Let’s be Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
Bikers Battling Cancer (BBC) rides to raise money for the WCGCC Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fund. This year I will ride my motorcycle to all four corners of the United States – from Key West to Madawaska, Maine, across to San Ysidro, CA then to Blaine, WA before returning to Columbus. Totaling just under 10,500 miles over 21 days. Tracing an X across the United States, I am adding my efforts to cross out cancer and help the people in West Central Georgia and Eastern Central Alabama meet their medical and personal expenses when dealing with cancer. I will be leaving September 30 and returning October 20 just in time for the Paint the Town Pink Event. You can support the WCGCC by making a donation, or you can donate in honor of a person who has experienced cancer by buying an Honor Ribbon. (information below).
Cancer takes its toll on individuals and families both financially and emotionally, and helping those with cancer through the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fund at the WCGCC is important for those of us who have had family members and friends who have had this decease, and who have had to fight this battle.
Last year I circumnavigated the United States, went through just about every type of weather and met some wonderful people along the way who shared their own stories about battling cancer. The ride is a challenge, but the encouragement I receive along the way and from the people in Columbus/Phenix City make it all worthwhile.
Again this year, I will be wearing honor ribbons for a donation of only $20. You can have the ribbon personalized supporting a person who has experienced cancer, or in memorial of a person who has died from cancer. There are four different ribbon colors to choose from (pink, blue, yellow/gold, and green). Each Honor Ribbon is $20, you can have a name, relationship, or nickname placed on the ribbon. (Limit is 8 letters, and one name per ribbon). These ribbons will then be sown onto a leather vest or chaps that will be worn during the BBC motorcycle ride in October, the Paint the Town Pink Event, and at other BBC events in honor of these people. For an Honor Ribbon, when you click on the “Donate” button, do the following:
1) Fill in the information regarding the donation (cost is $20 per ribbon).
2) On the next page click on the box “Add special instruction to seller”
3) Type: the color of the ribbon(s) desired, and name(s), etc. you want on the ribbon(s). (One name per ribbon). If you want a picture of the ribbon after it is done include an email address.
