Two different individuals from different works of life have something in common, the West Central Georgia Cancer Coalition. The help and care we provide for our clients are long term relationships in which they are able to get the help they need or through a referral from us.
Arthur Horton
At the time, Mr. Arthur Horton was a 58 year old Talbotton, Georgia resident who knew he needed a Prostate screening but couldn’t afford. Homeless, indigent and unemployed, Horton exhibited characteristics of clients that are served here at WCGCC. He received a free screening through WCGCC. After being diagnosed with Stage 3 Prostate Cancer, our Cancer Care Access Coordinator was able to contact and find the right treatment for him. With no insurance, Horton was able to start treatment under the directions of retired Urologist Dr. James Crosse and Dr. Tidwell for both Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment. He was provided these services at the Tidwell Cancer Treatment Center, here in Columbus, GA. Horton always pushed aside screenings because he couldn’t afford it. Now, Mr. Horton is free of cancer and continues to live his life and tells everyone about “Ms Carol, who helped him. She made sure I had a ride to my doctor’s appointments, and treatment. If it hadn’t been for Ms. Carol, I don’t know where I would be.”
